Ned Gallaway has over twenty-eight years in teaching, professional development, automotive retail management and community and elected leadership.
His skills and experience include sales and service management, recruiting, training, professional development, human resources, leadership, business development, teaching, public speaking, policy making, start-up finance and organizational change management.
Gallaway’s professional career began as a teacher with the nationally recognized Shaker Theatre Arts Department at Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Working alongside the teachers, administrators, and, on occasion, school board members, his passion for education became fully realized.
This passion for education led him to pursue higher education at the University of Virginia in the Social Foundations of Education doctoral program. Drawing from multiple disciplines – history, philosophy, sociology, political science, comparative education, and cultural studies – the program was a natural fit for Gallaway’s view of educational issues as he evolved from practitioner to policy maker.
Gallaway’s public service began with his election to the At Large seat on the Albemarle County School Board. It was as the Chair of the School Board he began to understand and hone the “chair as facilitator” role as he worked with his school board colleagues, the superintendent, and facilitated board meetings. Eventually Gallaway ran for the Albemarle Board of Supervisors. He served as Chair of the Board during his first term and ran successfully for a second term. He also serves as the Chair of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership.
Gallaway is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he earned a doctorate degree in social foundations of education and a graduate of Ohio University where he earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts. He and his three children reside in Albemarle County, Virginia.
